The drive to Anantaya Resort was pleasant. As Nilusha drove us to Chilaw where Anantaya Resort is located, I enjoyed so much of her company and a meaningful conversation along the way. As for our destination, it seemed just like the idyllic escape I had long been planning.
Tucked away in a sleepy village of karukapone, Anantaya is a huge resort with a private beach and some brilliant wallpaper like views. Right from the moment one steps in, the laid back and peaceful rhythm takes upon you. The location, the traditional architecture and the setting of the place is second to none.
Nilusha开车自驾带我前往Chilaw ( Anatanya Resort) 的路途真的好开心，有些人注定会成为一见如故的朋友，就像我和Nilusha，不仅享受旅途中的风景，还有在一起的时光。
On one side of the resort is a beautiful lagoon and the other is a private sandy beach. The property runs long and thus you will often find yourself chauffeured around in a buggy. While being introduced to the various facilities, I noticed several guests also cycling as an alternative or even as an activity at the resort.
Raj, our host and one of the very efficient managers at Anantaya is an example of great service. In the days to come, I will be witnessing some of the finest Sri lankan hospitality. For, it is not just places but also the people that make a huge difference.
Our room was deluxe suite on the second floor. It showed taste and was beautifully done with a lot of woodwork. The rooms were spacious and at par with modern amenities. The lounge section of the room had bay windows that overlooked the lagoon. While, the bedroom had a spectacular view of the ocean and the balcony opened up to the view of a large swimming pool.
The bed was positioned is such a way that anytime you wake up and open the curtains, you are welcomed by the infinite view of the ocean and the skies. Reminding you that you are with and in the infinity (anantaya). This resonated quite well with me. The bathroom was huge with a large size bathtub. It motivated my baths to be longer than usual.
That evening I made sure I did not miss the sunset and stepped out for a stroll. The landscaped lawns before the beach were tempting enough to do yoga there the next morning. Now, I was barefoot and loving it. Something as small as that made me so happy and almost felt like a therapy.
The beach was as private as it could get and I could have easily spent hours walking by myself and just being in that moment. I stopped for a drink at their bar. The views just don’t stop there. Everything here seemed to have a view. The dinner was a lavish spread with some extraordinary samples of Sri Lankan cuisine. The service was prompt and polite making dinner here a splendid first experience.
As always, I walked back to the room after the dinner soaking in the sights and sounds of this wonderful place. With those natural sounds, I had a sense of being close to nature, as I walked back that night.
Waking up late is one of my guilty pleasures that I indulge in now and then. As planned a nice yoga session followed a hearty breakfast that now turned into a brunch. More Sri Lankan dishes got added to my diary in the list of favourite things to eat. Upon my request, Raj had scheduled me for a spa session this afternoon at their in-house Coco Spa.
Coco Spa happens to be a chain of Spa’s from Bali. All the masseuses were Balinese and experts at their art. I was introduced and oriented to the spa by my very polite and soft spoken masseuse Devi. The spa property was very spacious reminded me of the images I had of Bali.
It is built on the lagoon side of resort and compliments the resort beautifully. The ambience of the rooms and the soft meditation like music that played there had me in the relaxed mode already. With the help of Devi, I finalised on their signature energy spa and facial. It involved an hour long massage with exotic oils and hot stones. I was so relaxed that I almost fell asleep. The facial was a great experience too.
I am no expert, but this had me relaxed and feeling good to the bits. It also set a higher benchmark to my journey of spa experiences. And, I knew that this would become my retreat within a retreat that anantaya already was for me. That evening the sunset felt a notch more beautiful than other days, the beach more serene, the dinner more delightful and me happier than ever.
Before, I went to bed I took to a cup of Sri Lankan tea. The newest of my acquired tastes. As I sat there meditating in the balcony, listening to the hymn of the waves and floating in ocean of calm within me. It occurred to me that how when you are having a good time, time does indeed pass a little too soon. I was treasuring that moment.
